Optical Properties and Radiation Stability of Sio2·nH2O Powders Modified by ZrO2 Nanoparticles

Статья в журнале

Powders of metal oxides, such as ZnO, TiO2, ZrO2, and Al2O3 with high reflectivity in the solar range of the spectrum are widely used for space vehicles (SV) as pigments thermal control coatings (TCC) belonging the class optical solar reflectors. Under the influence of cosmic radiation (CR) during SV orbitiong, defects and color centers are formed in these pigments and the TCC prepared on their basis, thereby leading to the formation of absorption bands and decreasing their reflection coefficient (ρ) in different ranges of the spectrum. To improve the stability of optical properties of the pigments under irradiation, different treatment methods are used, including treatment in oxygen, fluoridation, modification by oxidizers and rare-earth elements, heating in an oxygen atmosphere, and forming protective layers on grain and granule surfaces.
